Guitar Teacher Has Run In With Russell Brand - South Shields Gazette

A South Shields guitar teacher had his 15 minutes of fame after a verbal joust with controversial comedian Russell Brand.
The comic answered a question put to him by James Rundle on his YouTube channel.
In his online news show, The Trews, Brand discussed how he had been branded a hypocrite by The Sun Newspaper because of his housing arrangements.
Mr Rundle who owns Rock Licks Guitar Tuition http://www.rock-licks.com and https://www.youtube.com/user/jamesrundle72 YouTube channel posted his question 'Russell, is your bedroom wall real brick or brick wallpaper? Brick wallpaper is hypocrisy in its purest form'
Brand read the question out before standing up from the edge of his bed and patting the wall to show it's real brick.

Bijou - Queen - Guitar Lesson Tutorial (with guitar tab download)

How to play Bijou intro by Queen from the 1991 Innuendo album.

Guitar Tab link : http://1drv.ms/12vP3eK

In this video we look at the intro played by Brian May on the famous Red Special guitar.

"Bijou" was an idea Mercury and May had of making a song "inside-out" (having guitar doing the verses and the vocal doing the break). Mercury put the chords, title and lyrics, and the two of them worked on the guitar parts. Mercury sang the first line and then May transferred the melody to his Red Special. The song was finished without any input from Taylor or Deacon. The idea was not new and already used by Yes on their song "Soon". May later credited Jeff Beck's 1989 song "Where Were You" as the inspiration for 'Bijou'. In 2008, Queen + Paul Rodgers performed this song in their shows of the Rock the Cosmos Tour by May playing the verse live and then having Mercury's studio vocals play while a screen showed footage from the band's famous Wembley concert in 1986, with the visuals put in sync with the tape. Afterwards the Mercury part would fade out and May would lead into "Last Horizon".

Queen - Love Kills (The Ballad) - Guitar Solo - guitar tab

How to play the guitar solo from Love Kills (The Ballad) by Queen from the new album Queen Forever

As with most Brian May solo's there are more than one guitar and certain lines overlap.

The Video contains guitar tab to make learning easier

"Love Kills" is a song by Freddie Mercury. It was his first song recorded as a solo artist, though the extent to which it is a solo song is questionable, as the three other members of Queen provided uncredited performances. It was originally used in Giorgio Moroder's 1984 restoration and edit of the 1927 silent film Metropolis, as part of the film's new soundtrack. In 1985, the film was nominated at the 5th Golden Raspberry Awards for Worst Musical Score, and the song itself was nominated for Worst Original Song.[1] Nevertheless, the single reached number ten on the UK Singles Chart.

"Love Kills" was also used for the closing credits of the 1993 film Loaded Weapon 1. In 2009, a cover version by English synthpop singer Little Boots was included on her extended plays Little Boots and Illuminations. Brian May and Roger Taylor announced that a long lost ballad version of the song will be reworked for their new compilation album Queen Forever an album which includes Queen's love songs.

THE STORY OF THE HOME-MADE GUITAR THAT ROCKED QUEEN AND THE WORLD

“This book about my home-made guitar has been waiting in the wings for a very long time….Why the name ‘Red Special’? It goes back a long way. In the early days, she was always just ‘The Guitar’, and I think it was Jock, one of my first guitar techs, who, in a moment of what one might call over- familiarity, likened his burden of taking care of it to taking care of a spouse, referring to my treasure as the ‘Old Lady’. The appellation had an appeal, and kind of took root for a while. But, to me, this very personal instrument, with her humble beginnings in the minds and hands of my Dad and me, was worthy of a bit more respect than that. I remembered that at the time we finished the top coat of varnish, my Dad had wanted to christen her as the Brian May Special, and I had poo-pooed the idea; now I realised that it wasn’t so uncool to give her a proper name. So one day in a radio interview, when someone asked me what I called the guitar, the words Red Special just tumbled out before I’d had time to think. And from then on, that was her name. There are now a few thousand Red Special replicas in the world, but my first love still keeps some of her mystery. She is, after all, a one-off!” Brian May

Brian May and his father Harold started to hand-build an electric guitar in 1963 – a project that would take over a year to complete. Brian dreamed of a guitar that would outperform any of the existing commercially-made electric guitars; his father had the technical knowledge and skills to help make the dream come true. The book describes in detail the creative lengths father and son went to in order to construct the guitar. They were incredibly resourceful, using any materials they could get their hands on; the neck of the guitar was constructed from wood from an 18th-century fireplace mantel that a friend of the family was about to throw away and each of the position inlays was hand shaped from a mother-of-pearl button. Previously unseen original sketches, diagrams and notes accompany the text.

For the last 50 years The Red Special has been the guitar that Brian played on every Queen album, in all of Queen's live shows around the world and on the most special of occasions, including his legendary appearance on the roof of Buckingham, Live Aid and the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics. In the book Brian talks about these incredible moments he shared with The Red Special and the world.

The book contains fascinating, previously unseen photographs of The Red Special in every stage of its creation as well as shots of Brian in action on stage and behind the scenes with his treasured guitar. It is fitting that the world’s greatest guitarist has a signature guitar as unique as The Red Special, with its own story that fills a book!

1993 Tokai Les Paul for sale in south shields

£350 or buy through eBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380829737330

For sale in South Shields 1993 Made in Korea Tokai Les Paul
Selling this for a guitar luthier who has done extensive work on this guitar significantly upgraded.
The action is super low which makes playing effortless as well as having late 70's Dimarzio neck pickup which has had a Seymour Duncan alnico magnet added to give it a better tone and rid it of muddiness which.

The bridge pickup is Tokai and had bags of sustain and crunch

There are no marks or dings has set neck and made of mahogany. (Slight mark on scratch plate)
Is better than the Epiphone counterparts which are a similar price as the Tokai's body and necks were made with the same spec as a Gibson.

Uli Jon Roth Live at NEWCASTLE FOREST HALL LEGION

I was lucky enough to have tickets to see Uli Jon Roth live at Newcastle Forest Hall Legion Club.

For those who don't know of this great guitarist
Ulrich Roth, more commonly known as Uli Jon Roth, is a German guitarist and one of the earliest contributors to the neo-classical metal genre. He is also the founder of Sky Academy and inventor of the Sky Guitar.
Recorded 4 studio album with the Scorpions between 1974 and 1977 as well as The Tokyo Tapes 1978 released live album.

The Monday night gig kicked off with some early Scorpions material that had the place rocking. You really felt you were in the presence of someone a little bit special.
The young 17 year old guitarist was a surprise added bonus to the band as was the power house vocalist who was reminiscent Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow)
Probably the best local gig I've ever been to finished with Hendrix covers of All Along The Watchtower and Little Wing.

Special mention to the support band Russ Tippins http://www.russtippins.com/gigs.html who were amazing too.

The photographer Adam Kennedy took some amazing pictures worth checking out https://www.facebook.com/akennedyphotographer

the below video features Uli Jon Roth live last year
